Mobile RV Repair vs. Bringing It to the Shop: Which Do You Need?

Some RV repairs are better done in your driveway. Some need a bay and a lift. Here's how we decide, and what it means for your wait and your bill.

We do both, so we don't have a dog in this fight. What we care about is that the job gets done right the first time. Here's how we sort it.

What we do at your location

Most of what goes wrong on an RV is a component swap or a diagnostic, and there's no reason to move a 35-foot trailer to do either.

Mobile work covers appliances — air conditioning, furnace, water heater, refrigerator. Electrical troubleshooting, converters, inverters, generators. Batteries. Plumbing leaks and pump replacement. Slide-out adjustment, lubrication, and most motor and seal work. Leveling system diagnosis. Roof sealing and spot repairs. Tires and roadside issues. Winterizing and de-winterizing.

If you're in a campground or a storage lot and the rig is where it needs to be, mobile is almost always the better answer. You're not hitching up, you're not driving it, and it doesn't sit in somebody's lot for six weeks waiting for a bay.

That last part is worth saying out loud: the industry's dealer service backlog is real. Mobile service exists largely because people got tired of it.

What has to come to the shop

Four things drive a job into a bay.

Apex Armor. Spray coating requires a controlled environment. Temperature, humidity, containment, masking. It doesn't happen in a driveway.

Structural water damage. Once we're opening walls, replacing decking, pulling flooring, or dealing with delamination, we need the shop. These jobs run days to weeks, they need the RV open to the frame, and they need weather protection.

Interior remodels. Same reasoning. Cabinetry, flooring, and finish work need a controlled space and time.

Anything that needs the rig lifted or supported, or heavy equipment we can't bring to you.

We have four 50-foot bays, which matters if you own something long. A lot of shops physically can't take a 40-foot fifth wheel indoors.

And when it can't move at all

That's what the tow truck is for. If your slide is stuck out, your axle is done, or you're broken down on the shoulder, we'll come get it. Towing runs into Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and Virginia.

How to decide in about a minute

Ask yourself two things. Is it a component or a system — a part that fails and gets replaced? That's mobile. Is it the structure of the RV itself, or a coating? That's shop.

If you're not sure, describe it to us on the phone. We'd rather spend two minutes routing you correctly than send a truck for something that was always going to need a bay.
