Every RV roof we take apart tells the same story. A bead of sealant failed somewhere, water got in, and nobody knew for two years. The owner did everything right — resealed it every fall, kept it covered — and it still failed, because the design has seams in it and seams eventually move.
We got tired of that story. That's why we bought into Apex Armor.
The short version
Apex Armor is a spray-applied roof system. Instead of a rubber or TPO membrane held down with adhesive and sealed at every penetration with caulk, you get one continuous layer of coating over the entire roof, sprayed on in the shop. It goes over the decking and wraps around every vent, bolt, and protrusion in a single piece.
No seams. Nothing to reseal every year.
How we install it
This is not a rattle-can job in your driveway. The process at our shop runs like this:
- Everything comes off the roof. AC unit, vents, antenna, skylights, covers. All of it.
- The old roof comes off. We strip the existing rubber or TPO down to the decking. We do not spray over an existing membrane — if the layer underneath ever lets go, the coating goes with it.
- We repair what we find. This is the part nobody talks about. Once the membrane is off, we see the actual condition of the decking. Wet or rotted wood gets replaced before anything else happens.
- Prep and prime. The surface is cleaned and prepped so the coating actually bonds. Adhesion is the whole ballgame.
- Mask everything. Sidewalls, windows, trim, decals.
- Spray the coating in layers, then a texture coat on top for footing.
- Reinstall components and seal them into the system.
We usually recommend replacing tired vent covers and skylights while the roof is open. It's the cheapest it will ever be to do that.
Who it's right for
Good fit: You plan to keep the RV. You're on your second or third reseal. You've had a leak already. You store outside through Pennsylvania winters. You've got a big roof and resealing it is a whole weekend.
Probably not worth it: You're selling this spring. The unit already has structural water damage that costs more to repair than the rig is worth — we'll tell you that honestly rather than take the job.
What it costs
Price depends on length, roof type, how many penetrations, and what we find under the old membrane. We don't quote it sight unseen. We'll look at the roof — at the shop or on site inside our service area — and give you a real number in writing.
Compare it against what you're already spending. Sealant, your time or a shop's labor, every year, forever. Against one leak that reaches the floor.
The honest caveat
Apex Armor is a newer name than some of the spray-on systems out there, and you'll find RV forum threads where people say so. That's fair. What we can tell you is what we control: we strip to the deck, we fix what's underneath, and we stand behind our own work. Come look at a finished roof in our shop before you commit. We'd rather you see one than read about one.
